Summer Colors

Home Depot has put together something on their website that allows you to think about decorating by colors. I really like the yellows and blues. Definitely worth the look. If you're thinking about adding some brightness to your kitchen or tranquility to your bathroom these are some good ideas to consider.

Ways To Update Your Bathroom & Kitchen

2 of the most frequently used rooms are the bathroom and kitchen. If you're a first time homebuyer, more often than not you will find yourself strapped for cash after your purchase. As a new homeowner you will want to find some cost efficient upgrades and DIY's. If you are considering upgrading your place, I would highly recommend painting your place and getting carpet or getting the hardwood floors redone before moving in, otherwise it is a HUGE hassle. For about a week straight I had to sleep on the hardwood floor while they repainted the rooms and redid the carpets. Once you move in there are a few things that you can do to improve the rooms... all it takes is some elbow grease and a little bit of money.

Home Depot has a few ideas that may or may not fit in with what you're thinking...but at least it is a start.

Home Depot - 10 things to do to a kitchen
Home Depot - 10 things to do to a bathroom

A few things that are easy to do and don't cost a lot of money are:

  • Faucets - this makes a huge difference because its a high touch point in the room. Just make sure not to buy something too cheap otherwise you will have to replace it again.
  • Toilet seat - Although home depot did not suggest this, I am. No one and I mean no one wants to sit on the seat that someone else's bare butt has touched. It'll cost to twenty dollars to buy one and a few minutes to install. Well worth the cost and time. Your bare butt will thank me for this later.
  • Shower curtain - strong mildrew resistant ones that you can buy for $15-$20
  • Shower heads are easy to install and can be installed by screwing it in with some plumbers tape. This will increase efficiency and give your bathroom a new look.
Look around for some other DIY projects because the more you save now, the faster you'll be able to save up for larger upgrades that require a professional's work.

Remodel

I really like how this house was redone. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/photos/0,,20511890,00.html

The before and after pictures are stunning, I wish I was handy enough to do this. You will probably see more articles about fixing up homes and in the next few months you will also see me updating and doing some DIY work on the house.
